A.3.1.1
Training principles and programme design
Good programmes apply specificity, progressive overload, recovery, variety, reversibility and periodisation, organised into macro-, meso- and microcycles. Coaches measure baselines and track progress, and plan around fitness, age, sex, reproductive status, the menstrual cycle and the macrocycle phase. Adaptations depend on the intensity and type of training, aerobic or anaerobic, and on genetics, so responders gain more than non-responders. Too much load with too little recovery can lead to overreaching or overtraining.
